Dr Tamarin received her Medical Degree in 1982 from Hadassah Medical School, Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Following 8 years of training in Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Tel Aviv, she received her Specialist degree in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in 1991.

Dr. Tamarin began her professional life as Deputy Director of a Child & Adolescent Psychosomatic unit, Sheba Hospital- Tel Hashomer, Israel, working primarily in eating disorders. The Unit director, Dr Edith Mitrani, is a Psychiatrist and a Psychoanalyst, and the treatment process involved medical, psychiatric and psychoanalytically-oriented therapeutic skills, and close liaison with Paediatricians. This intense experience was formative in Dr Tamarin’s interest in psychosomatic illness in general and specifically in eating disorders.

Following this experience, she developed a vast private practice specializing in eating disorders, and became a Specialist Consultant in eating disorders for Macabi Health Care. In this role, she gained experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Dietitians, GPs, Family Therapists, Individual Therapists, Social Workers and Paediatricians. Her role included regular Psychiatric assessments, planning and implementation of treatment plans, and the clinical management of the treatment process and recovery.

In addition to ongoing work treating young people with eating disorders, she also continued her work as a General Psychiatrist working with both young people and adults. Among other posts, she worked as a Consulting Psychiatrist in the Balfour Adolescent Clinic in Tel Aviv and in Beit Hayeled (‘The Children’s Home’), a foster home for young people between the ages 6-18. In both places, she regularly assessed and treated young people suffering from anxiety, depression, OCD, psychotic illness, and ADHD.

In 2009, Dr. Tamarin moved with her family to the UK and has gained experience working in the NHS (CAMHS) and established the East Kent Eating Disorders Consultation service. Here, she used her years of experience in eating disorders to train and consult to other Consultants working with this client group.

During the last year and a half she has been working as a Visiting Consultant at the Priory Hospital, Roehampton with young people suffering from eating disorders. She has admitting rights at the hospital, which includes not only an Inpatient service, but also a Day care and Out-patient service. In addition, she has developed her own private practice in central London, leading an experienced and highly specialized team of eating disorder clinicians.

In addition to her role as a Psychiatrist, Dr. Tamarin has also pursued extensive training in psychoanalytic therapy. She is a member of the School of Psychoanalysis of the Lacanian Field since 2001, and is associated with the C-FAR (Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research) at Birkbeck College.

Dr. Tamarin is married, has four children, and lives with her family in London.
