After completing her M.A. (Hons) Psychology degree at Edinburgh University, she moved to London to do an M.Sc. in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology at University College London and went on to complete her Clinical Doctorate there. Since qualifying, she has been committed to further training and has completed a foundation course in Systemic therapy as well as a post-graduate Diploma in cognitive-behaviour therapy at Oxford University. Whilst her work is informed largely by cognitive-behavioural strategies, she also draws on systemic and psychodynamic constructs. Her cognitive-behavioural work includes both traditional as well as third wave approaches such as mindfulness and compassion-focussed ideas. Marisa’s integrative stance means that different evidence-based strategies can be drawn on, depending on the presenting problem and client preference. She is committed to offering a warm, client-centred approach where treatment goals are agreed on and worked towards in a transparent and collaborative manner.

Marisa has worked in both the NHS and private healthcare settings, specializing in adult and young people’s mental health issues.  Through her work in an NHS Adult Outpatient Clinic and GP Surgery she gained experience of working with a wide range of complex presenting problems such as depression, panic, generalised anxiety, social anxiety, specific phobias, anger, low self-esteem, eating disorders, OCD, interpersonal problems and relationship difficulties.  She furthermore worked in a team which developed innovative out-reach strategies aimed at vulnerable young men and helped train community staff to raise awareness of mental health issues in this client group. In her private practice, she offers cognitive-behavioural stress management aimed at professionals who are struggling to deal with high levels of anxiety and stress.
