Dr. Meila Roy

M.Roy.imageMeila is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).

Meila completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Bath. Her interest in psychological therapy was cemented by a clinic placement in eating disorders during this time. Following this experience, Meila worked with clients with schizophrenia in the community before starting further training. In 2010, Meila qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from UEA where she completed research in the field of eating disorders and self-compassion for her doctoral thesis.

Since gaining her Doctorate, Meila has worked with adults experiencing a range of mental health problems within the NHS and private sector. Meila works predominantly with individuals, but continues to enjoy working with groups and families. She has worked in complex adult mental health, eating disorders and specialist weight management centres.

Meila works collaboratively with clients drawing on a number of therapeutic models in support of their individual needs. She is particularly interested in cognitive behavioural approaches which she has employed with clients to manage difficulties including, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, mood and anxiety problems. Whilst working in eating disorder services and complex mental health teams, Meila has also gained skills in Cognitive Analytic Therapy which allows both an interpersonal and intrapersonal focus on difficulties. She has a keen interest in self-compassion and mindfulness skills both of which form and integral part of her work. Meila aims to centre all of her work around a warm, safe and empathic therapeutic relationship.
