Kat Hudson

Kat is an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist in her final year of training on a 3-year MA programme. She studies at the Institute of Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE), where she completed a Post Graduate Certificate in the Therapeutic Arts in 2017.

Kat has worked across various clinical settings including addictions, trauma, psychosis, depression, anxiety and perinatal mental health. She also volunteered as a mentor for an eating disorders client for 2 years. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with patients of varying ages, sexual orientations and ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds.

Integratively trained, Kat draws from number of theoretical perspectives in order to tailor her support accordingly to the individual needs of her clients. This flexibility enables clients to co-create their treatment, and Kat welcomes openness in how clients would like to focus their care. Her therapeutic approach is inspired by psychodynamic and humanistic principles, particularly attachment theory, object relations theory, transactional analysis and Gestalt; however, the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of her work, providing empathic and accepting conditions in which clients can explore the challenges they bring. Kat works at the pace of her clients’ choosing and
aims to support them creatively or verbally, in gaining greater understanding of their feelings and circumstances. She hopes to foster new methods of relating and functioning, when current methods do not feel satisfying.

Kat is dedicated to emotional wellbeing and decided to combine this with her creative background. She graduated with an Honours Degree in Embroidered Textiles at the Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004. She has a professional background in surface pattern and print design, having worked for various companies, as well as setting up her own business before training as an Arts Psychotherapist.
