Verity is a Counselling Psychologist in training, in the final year of her Doctorate at City, University of London.
Born in Hampshire, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University in 1999. She then studied Law and became a crime, family and human rights barrister in 2002, before converting to finance and working in private equity from 2011 to 2014. Meanwhile, she received a distinction in the Graduate Diploma in Psychology from London Southbank University before starting her Doctorate in 2015.
Close to completion, Verity describes herself as an integrative practitioner, focused mainly on the ways that relationships, the socio-historical- cultural context and the different, often-competing systems of which we are all inherently a part impact and play out in our lives. She believes that there is no one- size-fits-all solution for people’s difficulties and prefers to tailor therapy to the particular challenges, needs and contexts of the individual client, couple or family – being at all times open, honest and understanding.
Verity has worked in a variety of private, charity, forensic, psychiatric and NHS contexts, helping adults gain insight into, and work through, a range of emotional, cognitive and behavioural distress. She has experience of working with depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, personality disorder, trauma, abuse, addiction, eating disorders, self-harm and grief. She uses evidence-based interventions, drawing on cognitive-behavioural therapy, person-centred therapy, systemic therapy, narrative therapy, compassion focused therapy, solution-focused therapy and mindfulness. She believes in the benefits of positive psychology and the idea that everyone can be helped to have more, do more and be more; in short, to become the very best version of themselves. Verity’s way of working is empathic, safe and containing, switching between active listening, gentle challenge and the use of humour when appropriate – to allow people to find their own ways to express their emotion, search for meaning and achieve self-fulfilment.
Verity lives in London with her husband, two children and most beloved labradoodle, Penfold.
