Emma graduated with an honours degree in Psychology from the University of Southampton in 2008. Following work in a variety of settings such as marketing account management and charity project coordination Emma went on to complete the Doctorate at City University and focused her research on examining the nature of compassionate care in the NHS. Promoting compassionate care, self-compassion and wellbeing in the workplace are areas of interest Emma remains passionate about.

Emma has had a varied clinical background working within services for eating disorders, substance and alcohol misuse, NHS staff psychological wellbeing, early intervention for psychosis and complex adult mental health. At present she works in a secondary care NHS service for clients with severe and enduring mental health concerns such as personality disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, self-harm and eating disorders. Emma has been trained by the British Isles Institute in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and is passionate about the skills it can provide to support individuals to learn emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. Emma is also currently undertaking professional accreditation process for Schema Therapy.

Emma takes an integrative therapeutic approach, which values each client’s individuality in order to create a collaborative holistic experience that reflects their distinctiveness. She utilises CBT as well as compassion, mindfulness, DBT and schema informed interventions to support clients to gain a greater understanding of themselves and make lasting changes by creating a warm, accepting, compassionate experience of the therapeutic relationship.
