Josie is a counselling psychologist who offers sensitive and personalised, psychological therapy. She is committed to developing a strong therapeutic relationship with each client in which they experience acceptance, understanding and respect.

As a counselling psychologist Josie has worked in a variety of settings, helping people with a range of difficulties including eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, addiction, childhood trauma, bereavement, relationship problems and low self-esteem. Working in partnership with her clients, Josie explores a client’s goals for therapy and seeks to develop a comprehensive understanding of their difficulties so together they can agree a therapy plan and utilise the most appropriate therapeutic approach.

Josie has extensive experience of helping people with eating disorders, problematic emotional eating, binge eating and body image concerns. Her doctoral thesis was on the topic of relationships and eating disorders. For the past 15 years, Josie has worked in NHS adult eating disorder services and NHS specialist weight management services. In both settings she has helped people to better understand and overcome the destructive relationships they have developed with food, eating and body image, helping them reset their relationship with food and go on to adopt and maintain healthier eating patterns and greater self-compassion. Very often this work also entails addressing other difficulties such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, perfectionism, OCD, trauma, living with long-term health conditions and navigating troubled relationships.

Josie is a registered psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a chartered psychologist with the British Psychology Society (BPS) where she is an associate fellow. At the BPS, Josie is a full member of the Division of Counselling Psychology, a general member of the Division of Clinical Psychology; an associate member of the Faculty for Eating Disorders and an associate member of the Faculty of Clinical Health Psychology.

Josie completed her undergraduate psychology degree at Oxford University. After graduating she worked in training and development and human resources for several years. Although she enjoyed coaching, mentoring and helping people develop their potential at work she felt that she had more to offer at an individual level and therefore retrained as a counselling psychologist, completing her Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City University, where she returned a few years later as a visiting lecturer.
